 IPL Photofractional™

IPL® Photofractional™ in Cary, Raleigh & Apex, NC

Luxe Aesthetics offers IPL® Photofractional™ treatments for patients in Cary, Raleigh, Apex, and surrounding North Carolina communities who want clearer, smoother, more youthful-looking skin. This treatment combines IPL® Photofacial technology with ResurFX™ Non-Ablative Laser resurfacing, allowing skin tone and skin texture concerns to be treated in the same session.

IPL® Photofractional™ targets discoloration, redness, fine lines, acne scars, and uneven texture for comprehensive skin rejuvenation with less downtime than more aggressive resurfacing treatments.

What Is IPL® Photofractional™?

IPL® Photofractional™ is a combination skin rejuvenation treatment that uses two technologies in one plan:

  1. IPL® to target unwanted pigment and superficial blood vessels, and

  2. ResurFX™ to stimulate collagen remodeling and improve textural concerns.

This dual approach is designed for patients who have both color and texture concerns, such as sun spots plus fine lines, or redness plus acne scarring. Treating these issues together can create a brighter, smoother, and more even-looking complexion over time.

What Can IPL® Photofractional™ Treat?

   •    Age spots and sun spots.
   •    Uneven skin tone and blotchy discoloration.
   •    Facial redness and visible blood vessels.
   •    Fine lines and early wrinkles.
   •    Acne scars and uneven texture.
   •    Overall dullness and photodamage.

This treatment is commonly used on the eyes, face, neck, chest, and hands, where signs of sun exposure and skin aging are often most visible.

How Does IPL® Photofractional™ Work?

IPL® works by delivering light energy that is absorbed by pigment and blood vessels in the skin, helping reduce brown spots, redness, and superficial vascular changes. ResurFX™ uses non-ablative fractional laser energy to create controlled zones of heat beneath the skin, which stimulates collagen and elastin production while leaving much of the surface skin intact to support healing.

Because the treatment addresses both discoloration and collagen remodeling, IPL® Photofractional™ can improve tone and texture at the same time. Lumenis-based ResurFX™ treatments are also described as efficient because they typically require only one pass over the skin during a session.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

This treatment may be a good option for patients who want to improve sun damage, early aging changes, acne scarring, or uneven skin quality without choosing a fully ablative laser. It is especially useful when skin concerns are mixed, such as pigment plus texture, or redness plus fine lines.

Candidacy still depends on skin type, recent sun exposure, current skincare products, and overall treatment goals. A consultation helps determine whether IPL® Photofractional™ is the best option or whether IPL® Photofacial or ResurFX™ alone would be a better fit.

Is IPL® Photofractional™ Painful?

Most patients tolerate IPL® Photofractional™ well. We use topical numbing before ResurFX™ and cooling during treatment, and patients often describe the sensation as warm, prickly, or similar to a quick snapping feeling.
Because ResurFX™ is non-ablative, treatment is generally associated with less downtime than more aggressive ablative resurfacing approaches.

When Will I See Results?

Improvement in tone and brightness may be visible after the first treatment, especially when pigment and redness are major concerns. Improvement in texture, fine lines, and collagen support typically develops more gradually over a series of sessions.

3 to 6 treatments spaced monthly is typical for best results, with continued improvement for up to six months after the final session as collagen remodeling continues.

What Is Recovery Like?

Immediately after treatment, patients often experience temporary redness, warmth, and mild swelling. Practices offering ResurFX™ commonly describe minimal swelling for 1 to 2 days, mild redness for several days, and a rough or sandpapery skin feel during the early healing phase.

Compared with more aggressive ablative resurfacing, downtime is generally lighter because the treatment is non-ablative and fractional. Many patients return to normal routines quickly, though sun protection and gentle skincare remain important during recovery.

What Areas Can Be Treated?

IPL® Photofractional™ is frequently used on areas that show sun damage and age-related change most clearly, including: Face, Eyelids, Neck, Chest, Hands. These areas often respond well when patients want to improve both visible discoloration and the overall quality of the skin.
