How It Works

This fractional technology uses microbeams or columns of energy to create areas of affected tissue that extend through the skin’s epidermis into the dermis. By leaving the surrounding skin unharmed, the technology facilitates faster healing.

This triggers the body’s natural healing process to clear away old, damaged skin cells and create new, healthy cells to replace them. The laser also stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin deep within your skin. Over time, this builds the support structure under your skin, resulting in a younger and smoother looking appearance.

What To Expect On The Day Of Treatment

Before your Icon™ skin resurfacing treatment, your provider will typically apply a topical anesthetic over the area being treated. Once you are ready, the topical anesthetic will be removed and the skin will be cleansed.

• Protection: You will be provided eye shields to protect yourself from the laser during treatment.

• Procedure: The provider will guide the Icon™ handpiece over the treatment area. You may feel heat or a tingling sensation.

• Duration: Depending on the size of the area, treatments take approximately 30 minutes.

• Immediate Post-Care: The area will be cooled and an occlusive ointment will be applied to decrease healing time.

Post-Treatment Instructions

• Sensation: Immediately after treatment, it is common for your skin to feel warm and appear sunburned. Swelling and pinpoint bleeding may also occur.

• Cooling: Cool compresses may be used to soothe the skin. Refrigerated, saline-soaked gauzes are recommended. For the first 24 hours, or until sensitivity settles, a cool pack can be utilized. Never apply anything frozen directly to the skin.

• Ointment: Apply an occlusive ointment to the treated area to decrease healing time and minimize discomfort.

• Sun Protection: Avoid sun exposure during the first few weeks following the procedure. A broad-spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunblock with SPF 50 or greater should be used for any transient exposure. If possible, cover the treated area with clothing or a wide-brimmed hat.
